The Good Shepherd Hospital is a full-service 140 bed reference hospital. Within the two Kasais it has been the premier hospital to which others in the region send cases that are beyond their capabilities to deal with. It has had a reputataion for providing one of the highest if not the highest quality levels of service in the region.

Governmental entities, NGOs, the army and many private businesses in the Kananga area contract with it to provide health care for their employees. It is sought out by the small population of Congolese who are modestly or comfortably wealthy and can afford to pay higher fees.

With few if any doctors offices offering a private family practice option for people in the Kananga area, the Good Shepherd Hospital (and its outpatient clinics) addresses that need for adults (there is a separate pediatrics department) through its internal medicine department. At least one of the doctors on staff is designated to specialize in this area and treats a broad range of diseases and trauma not requiring surgery -- Malaria, AIDS, TB, Diabetes, Hypertension, Gout, Anemia, Typhoid, Meningitis, respiratory infections, ear-nose-and-throat, skin diseases, Dysentery and other gatro-intestinal diseases, parasites, etc.

With two surgeons on staff, the Good Shepherd Hospital has an extensive surgery schedule. It is widely known for its leadersip in fistula repair. Major workloads include surgeries of the digestive tract, orthopedic and trauma surgeries, reconstructive surgeries and OB-Gyn surgeries.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Luke 18:16
